about HElEN

Working on sexual expression is
about learning yourself through your senses, making sex a full-body activity, and discovering what makes you feel fully alive.

The first step in pursuing aliveness (or pleasure, or satisfaction, or confidence, or desire, or wholeness, or feeling listened to for once, or just freaking at peace with sexual desire already!) is learning to feel in the truest sense. This means learning about healthy sexuality, neurobiology, attachment, the world you grew up in, and how you actively express yourself in it. You’ll explore how you learned to be sexual, be in relationships, communicate, and create safety for yourself. I’ll engage you in somatic (body- and sensory-based) experiencing, healthy eroticism and sex education, attachment and family systems exploration, and help you learn a healthy balance of connection and separateness between you and your partner(s). Sex and communication are full-body activities, and you need to know how your brain and body learned them, as well as incorporate the body and senses fully in your experiences of living in a realistic, goal-oriented, holistic spirit. I’m interested in guiding you toward living an erotic, creative life inside and outside the bedroom. A creative life is an amplified life, a fuller life, a challenging life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life. Living with awareness of your senses, body, and innate creativity is an art in and of itself. In my experience, mastering creative, pleasure-centered living and feeling is worth the effort it requires.

I’m a sex and relationship therapist, researcher, writer, teacher, professional musician, actor, and artist. In addition to clinical work, I am an adjunct professor at Adler University and Northwestern University. I earned my master’s degree in Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University in Chicago. I am experienced in navigating concerns related to kink, BDSM, and non-monogamy. I am an active, published sexology researcher and an active member of AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists), SSTAR (Society of Sex Therapy and Research), AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists), and KPACT (Kink and Poly Aware Chicago Therapists). Outside of therapy, I am a musician, ceramicist, and professional storyteller. I am committed to my relationships and the creative part of my Self, so I practice good boundaries and give balanced commitment to work and play. I try to embody the things I offer in therapy.
